Product & install
Do I need to install SlimPPT?
No. Use a modern browser on the website or open the editor directly—no plugin or desktop app. Open, edit, and present without an account.
Does it work on phones?
Phones and tablets can open the site, but heavy editing (timeline, multi-select) is best on desktop or a tablet with a keyboard. Slideshow and share links usually work on phones.
Can I work offline?
You need a network for the first load. After parsing, editing often works on slow links. Saving .pptx and export require sign-in and a network. Do not rely on fully offline mode for critical work.
Can I switch the UI to Chinese?
Yes. Console Settings or the editor locale switch: English / Simplified Chinese. This docs site has a language menu in the header.
Files & formats
Which formats are supported?
Import is primarily .pptx / .pptm. Export: PPT, PDF, HTML, PNG, JSON as shown in the editor. Convert legacy .ppt to pptx first. Macros in .pptm pass through and are not executed in the browser.
Is there a file size limit?
We recommend under ~100 MB per file. Larger decks may exhaust browser memory—split files or close other tabs. Online storage has a separate per-file cap (~200 MB in beta).
Can I keep editing in PowerPoint?
Yes. Exported PPT keeps OOXML structure; changes you made in SlimPPT are written back. Rare advanced features may need a touch-up in PowerPoint.
WPS / Keynote / LibreOffice?
Save as standard .pptx first. Layout and animation fidelity follow PowerPoint / OOXML.
Animations & compatibility
Are animations 1:1 with PowerPoint?
We implement 70+ transitions and common object animations per OOXML. Third-party plugins, VBA, or exotic effects may differ—preview before export.
One slide looks wrong—why?
Preview in-app first. Note slide number and effect name, then email support with a redacted sample if needed.
Embedded video and audio?
Depends on encoding and browser codecs. Preview media slides before export; finalize critical decks in PowerPoint.
Laser pointer and whiteboard?
During a show: L laser, W whiteboard, S save the current slide as PNG. Right-click for the menu. See Shortcuts.
Accounts, quotas & beta
Do I need to register?
No. You can open, edit, and present without an account; drafts stay in the browser. Save, export, online storage, sharing, live present, and collaboration need sign-in. Beta registration requires an invite code.
I do not have an invite code
Ask a current beta user (they copy unused codes from Console → Campaigns), or email support@slimppt.com with your use case. Without a code you can still edit as a guest; you cannot export to disk or use cloud features.
What can I do in beta?
Beta includes full editing, slideshow, local storage, and AI with your own API key. Export is 200 pages/month, with no HTML watermark; HTML export keeps advanced motion and plugins. Online storage is 1 GB (~200 MB per file). Online share is unlimited links, not counted as export, with a 30-day default. Live numbers in the console and editor always win.
How are export pages counted?
Each exported slide counts as one page. Downloads of PPT / PDF / HTML / PNG (including Ctrl/Cmd+S save as .pptx) count toward the monthly quota; online share, presentation, local autosave (browser drafts), and cloud upload do not. Quotas reset each month on the anniversary of when beta access started. Unused pages do not roll over. Rely on the editor and account pages for the live balance.
Local vs online storage?
Local storage uses IndexedDB and does not count toward export quota (browser-limited). Guest drafts live in a visitor store and merge into your account after sign-in. Online storage is optional encrypted backup (cross-device sync) and needs sign-in. Deleting frees space immediately. See Cloud storage & share.
Share vs export?
Export means downloading files locally and counts toward export pages. Online share hosts read-only presentation links—unlimited links, not counted as export. Beta default TTL is 30 days, with password and unpublish. For co-editing, use collaboration (experimental) or send .pptx.
Can beta use advanced motion and plugins?
Yes. In-product slideshow and HTML export keep advanced transitions and pack playback plugins.
I forgot the cloud passphrase
The passphrase is client-side only; we cannot decrypt for you. Start from local drafts or a re-exported file, then set a new passphrase.
AI
Does SlimPPT charge for AI?
No. Your model vendor bills the key. Generate and chat need a configured key.
Skills / MCP?
Skills are prompt rule sets (built-in ppt_master). MCP exposes tools (stock photos, fonts, …). Toggle them under AI → Capabilities; custom Skills live in the console. See AI assistant.
Live present & collaboration
Viewers cannot join live present
Check the link expiry, password, lock, and “block entry at start”. Audio is peer-to-peer WebRTC; some corporate NATs fail. Cap is 24 people—not a large webinar.
Collaboration vs share?
Share / live present is read-only. Collaboration (experimental) is multiplayer editing, needs the full invite link (including the key), and requires sign-in. Do not use the room as the only backup.
Security & privacy
Is my deck uploaded to your servers?
Core editing is local, and drafts stay on-device. Opening a file from the marketing site prefers a browser-to-editor handoff; if the popup is blocked and you are signed in, a short-lived server slot may be used. Saving .pptx or exporting HTML / PDF / PNG sends the deck content needed to generate the file to our servers—used only for that generation, not retained long term. After import, drafts stay in the browser by default. Online storage or share uploads an encrypted backup or read-only copy only after a clear prompt.
Who receives AI prompts?
The model vendor you configure with your API key. SlimPPT does not host or store your key.
How do I clear local data?
Clear site data for https://slimppt.com and https://edit.slimppt.com in the browser. Delete cloud files in the console, or email support@slimppt.com.
Sign out other devices?
Console Profile → Sessions: revoke one session or all others.
Legal pages: Terms and Privacy.
Issues & support
Blank page or load failure?
Refresh, clear site data, try another browser, or disable ad blockers.
Tab freezes or crashes?
Close other tabs, reduce deck size, update the browser. Contact us with OS, browser version, and file scale if it persists.
Export failed?
Check sign-in, quota, protected content, and disk space.
Drafts gone after login?
Guest drafts merge in the same browser. A different browser, device, or cleared site data cannot carry them over—use the cache menu or an exported file.
How do I report bugs or ideas?
Email support@slimppt.com with subject “Bug” or “Feature”, steps, expected vs actual, screenshots, and an optional sample pptx. Never paste API keys.
